Luke 21:19
19 In your patience possess ye your souls.
Luke 8:15
15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.
James 5:7
7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
(Be patient with those you are helping to grow in the Lord; considering their faith till they be strong enough to walk on their own in the word. Then its time to give them a nudge to try their own wings and venture out in the faith they have in Christ.)
James 5:8
8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
(God is patient with us; if we stumble a little bit, he picks us up and encourages us and helps us to take another step.)
How Do We Be Patient?
I Pet 4:7
7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
I Pet 4:8-10
8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
James 4:11
11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
James 2:1
1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.
James 2:9
9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
(In other words, treat all your brethren alike in the Lord; you are to show charity, honour and respect to all alike; they are all your friends as Christ is our friend.)
James 5:9-12
9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.
10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.
(The prophets were commanded of God to give out reproving and rebukes to the people, and the mocking and abuse they received was innumerable; and they had long patience before some of the things they prophesied came true or to pass.)
11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
(When we have to endure a trial with much patience, and its over; we’re glad its over and we can look back and rejoice how the Lord kept us through it and understand what it was all about; it was the experience we needed to help us to grow another step and to be more like Christ.)
12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
(Speak the truth in all things and give no further explanation than is necessary; let what you say be said and that’s it; Jesus didn’t have to explain everything he did and said; he was led of the Spirit and God was his testimony of truth.)
Rom 8:25
25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
(We hope and wait patiently for the coming of Christ. The same with a soul – we don’t at first see the work the Holy Spirit is doing in the heart, but as we with patience sow and water, then in due season we see that soul grow.)
Heb 10:35-38
35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.
38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
(Have the patience to go on with Christ, no matter what others do or say; it is your walk, you must work out your own salvation; it isn’t up to others to do it for you. Live or die it’s Christ all the way.)
Heb 12:1-4
1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
How Do We Obtain Patience?
Rom 5:3-5
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
(The things that we go through, teach us to have patience and to wait patiently for the answer; not going ahead in the flesh; but abiding in God’s time and letting him work it out. Not questioning or doubting; but sitting back and watching God work.)
James 1:2-3
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
Rom 15:1-7
1 We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
2 Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.
3 For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.
4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
5 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:
6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
7 Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.
(As Christ – God is patient with us, so should we be with each other.)
James 1:4
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
(Be willing to wait and endure, because what ever comes your way you shall be overcomers and wanting nothing. Let God have His will and way in your lives.)
Rev 14:12-13
12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
Eccl 7:8
8 Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.
(A thing is better finished so you can look back on it and see what was accomplished.)
I Thes 5:14
14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
(We know not whom God is calling and who will be chosen.)
